The Frontyard Ultra is a variance on the ever popular backyard ultra.
Female runners must consecutively run the distance of 6kms in less than one hour. When each lap is completed, the remaining time within the hour is used to recover and replenish for the next hours race. The race finishes when one person completes one more lap than anyone else.
The Frontyard Ultra is designed as an introduction to the backyard ultra for female runners with the intention to remove some of the more daunting aspects of a traditional backyard ultra such as time constraints.
It is an opportunity for females to join together, make new friends, have fun and challenge themselves to something new in a safe environment and put the males on kid and crewing duties.

The Rules
~ Each lap starts exactly 1 hour after the last one started ... ie: 10am, 11am, 12pm etc .
~ There will be a warning whistle at 3 minutes, 2 minutes & 1 minute prior to start each hour.
~ If you are not in the starting corral when the bell goes you do not get to start. No late starts. No exceptions.
~ Except for toilet stops runners may not leave the course until each lap is completed. There are port-a-loos
at the 2.5km mark and at the 5km mark. The port-a-loos in Event Village may not be used once the start
bell sounds. These are only accessible after you have completed your lap and prior to the start bell sounding
~ No non-competitors on the course including eliminated runners. The tracks are open to the general public including other runners and mountain bikers - please be courteous but accept no assistance.
~ No personal aid during a lap. Aid is only allowed in the event village during the time you have remaining after you have completed a lap and before the start whistle goes for the next lap.
~ Each lap must be completed within the hour to be counted, including the final lap.
~ No artificial aids including poles.
~ Slower runners must allow faster runners to pass. Faster runners must give slower runners time to make room for them to pass. No pushing, shoving or elbowing etc.
~ This is a self supported event in that you must provide all your own food and fluid requirements. We will not be providing an aid station although we may have extra water on hand. There are no taps at Kaiapoi Island
so you will need to bring all your own water in with you.
~ The winner is the last person to complete a loop.
~ Everyone else is a DNF.
~ If no one manages to complete a final loop on their own then there is no winner.
~ You must report to the timing team when you decide you cannot go on.
~ Use of noise blocking headphones is strictly prohibited. You must at all times be able to hear approaching cyclists, and runners. Use of noise blocking headphones will result in disqualification.
~ A quiet zone will be implemented between dusk and dawn. This is to enable runners and crew as well as volunteers to get some sleep during the night. There will be no music or sound system and crews and friends are to be advised that there is no clapping, yahooing or other verbal cheering on. Silent krayzie dances and wild hand waving is acceptable. Please keep chatter between runners and crew to as quiet as possible so as not to disturb runners in gazebos next to you as they try to catch a few minutes sleep.
Compulsory Gear
Due to the lap nature of the event you do not need to carry compulsory gear with you but you must have the following gear at your aid area in the event village:
~ thermal tops, leggings beanie & gloves - the nights can still get cold.
~ seam sealed jacket - in case it rains
~ spare socks
~ sunhat
~ towel
~ togs - not compulsory but you may want to go for a dip in the river when you're done.
Event Village
~ Each entrant will be allocated a 3m X 4m space to erect an aid station gazebo or tent for themselves close to the start finish line (corral). This is issued on a first come, first served basis. We will not reserve sites for anyone so please do not ask.
~ There will be no campers or aid areas with wheels permitted in the Event Village. All vehicles must remain in the designated parking area.
~ There is no power or running water available in the Event Village. Please bring your own power banks for charging of watches and phones. Please bring enough water to see you through the distance you wish to achieve. We will have a quiet generator to power the timing system and lights at night but cannot guarantee there will be enough power available for runners to utilise so please refrain from asking to use this.
~ We will have a couple of gas cookers for heating water etc. Your crew are welcome to use these on a first in, first served basis. Depending on how much power we can generate will determine whether we utilise our hot water urns.
~ Whilst we will endeavour to have fresh fruit available for runners - think watermelon, pineapple and other juicy wonders - please do not rely on this. This is a self-supported event and anything we provide is to be considered as a bonus.
~ Absolutely no support crew or spectators on course at any time.
The only question is
Are You Krayzie Enough?
